RED RIBBON CLUB [ RRC ]

The Red Ribbon Club (RRC) is a youth club program initiated by the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society,  TANSACS to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS among young people. The RRC is supported by the Higher Education Department operates in  colleges and universities engaging students in the 17-25 years age group in various activities to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. It aims to reduce stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS and promote a supportive environment for people living with HIV/AIDS. Peer education programs are a key component of the RRC, where trained peer educators educate their peers about HIV/AIDS prevention and care. Exposure visits to ICTC, STI, ART, Blood Bank and HIV Community Centre by the RRC Volunteers also form part of the initiatives. Activities of the RRC include organizing awareness campaigns, seminars, workshops, and street plays to educate young people about HIV/AIDS. The RRC also conducts HIV/AIDS testing and counseling sessions to promote early detection and treatment of the disease. Community outreach initiatives by the RRC involve reaching out to local communities to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and promote preventive measures. The RRC collaborates with healthcare providers, NGOs, and government agencies to implement its programs effectively. HIV/ AIDS awareness campaigns (Rallies and Outreach activities) and events are held to commemorate International Youth Day (IYD), World AIDS Day (WAD), National Youth Day (NYD), National Voluntary Blood Donors Day (NVBD), World Blood Donation Day (WBD) and International Women’s Day (IWD). The RRC promotes a holistic approach to HIV/AIDS prevention, addressing social, cultural, and economic factors that contribute to the spread of the disease. It encourages youth to physically, mentally , emotionally and socially support people affected by AIDS and other STIs. On the whole the RRC works towards creating a future where HIV/AIDS is no longer a threat to the health and well-being of individuals and communities.

In our college Mrs.B.Saraswathi, Assistant professor/ECE act as RRC coordinator. Our RRC volunteer students made awareness about various things among village peoples through various programs
